In the spring semester of my sophomore year, our ID studio professor posed a project prompt to make something out of an existing product. At the time I was fostering an obsession with analog inputs, so I picked an etch-a-sketch, which has two. I also gutted an FM radio and rigged up the etch-a-sketch knobs to control the station and volume. The result is a radio that graphs the user's listening history:
I also made a new housing for the etch-a-sketch, to accommodate the additional inner workings. I installed red LEDs inside to reference the original color (and allow it to be used in the dark):
